The Midwest Space Fest offers a fresh perspective of the universe for curious people of all ages and a chance to explore the wonders of the night sky and the many science fields related to it.
The festival opens 6 p.m. Friday at the State Theatre with the EMMY-nominated science documentary, “The City Dark,” followed by a Launch Party at ECCO Event Space. Free solar viewing, stargazing, storytellers and exhibitors will be available at the Open Space waterfront park on Saturday, and exhibitors and vendors will also be set up inside ECCO Event Space. Saturday’s keynote presenter is Dr. Alex Filippenko, a member of the prestigious National Academy of Sciences, a multiple-award winning researcher and a Univ. of Calif.-Berkeley science professor. He will discuss, “Dark Energy and the Runaway Universe. Dr. Filippenko frequently appears on television science programs, including the recent History Channel special, STAR TREK: Secrets of the Universe.
